Civil Rights

I did many things in my presidency to begin the Civil Rights Movement. Though I was not successful in getting Congress to make huge changes, I set a good foundation for the changes to come. I implemented the integration of the US military as well as appointing several influential and jurists concerning civil rights. I also was the first president to appoint an African-American to an executive position in the White House. I also implemented some of the first regulations on racial discrimination in the workplace and in public schools. As you can see, I was a pretty influential person in the beginnings of the Civil Rights Movement.

  1. Hi, this is Harry S Truman, the 33rd President of the United States. I am responding to your post about the Civil War because this was an important part of history. I believe the regulations you made in office were significant. Giving African American's jobs in the White House helped make progress in ending racial disrimination.

  2. Hi, this is Jfk, I'm surprised that it took this long for a president to fight racism. The regulations you made went very far to help end racism and discrimination in schools and jobs. By appointing an African American to an important position in the White House did you fear that people would be mad with you and want a white person in the position? Without you it would have taken a lot longer to end discrimination.

  3. Hey there it's George Washington the 1st president of the United States. I have to agree with Harry, this is a very big accomplishment and has changed the future. Helping the African Americans in this time of need gave them great confidence to do more and have more rights.
